  • ocd is not fucking destigmatized

  • "intrusive thought" gets thrown around by assholes talking about putting strainers on their heads or stepping on a leaf who in the next sentence will say "if your thoughts are about actually hurting people they should put you in a psych ward". compulsions and rituals get seen as proof you're "crazy". ocd insight CAN be delusional, even. pocd and sexual ocd is especially demonized, though even something as "harmless" (to others. not *us*) as contamination OCD is still mocked, belittled, and seen as a sign something is fundamentally wrong with you. I have seen people twice my age advocate for violence against anyone who thinks the way I've been forced by my mental illness to think since i was 6, maybe 7 years old.

    OCD is not destigmatized.

  • Adding to this some site-specific things:

    1. The stupid, stupid trend of people deciding intrusive thoughts about bigotry mean you are a bigot and hence a bad person. People on this site cannot fucking function without using what they imagine peoples’ thoughts to be as a way of determining their values and character.

    2. If OCD is destigmatized why are there shitheads on here who have stuff like DNIs with the “wrong” kind of intrusive thoughts in them, including “mental health” blogs?

    3. Why do people treat thoughts and actions as comparably harmful? Why do people act like a stranger on the other side of a screen experiencing something internally could hurt them in literally any way?

People are only OK with us if we never acknowledge that we’re suffering or seek/share help in a public way, they’re only OK with us if we never show symptoms or “let” it interfere with us. The only non-stigmatized way to have OCD is to not have OCD.

  • My parents were at a conference several years ago where Neil Armstrong was the keynote speaker. During Q&A, one of the questions was how long he spent thinking about the "one small step" line.

He said the estimated odds of them actually making it to the moon were so low, none of them had given any thought to it at all. NASA had put 10 years' worth of effort from the smartest minds they could recruit into figuring out how to get someone to the moon, and still they thought it likely enough that they'd missed something, that they honestly didn't even think about the possibility that someone on this ship was going to be saying humanity's first words from a different planet.

From our perspective, the odds of them reaching the moon are 100% -- it feels inevitable to us. But it really was a hell of an accomplishment, given what they had to work with

  • READY OR NOT, HERE IT COMES!

    ⭐⭐HAPPY MOON LANDING DAY!!!⭐⭐

  • another important thing to remember is 1) u can pick up any hobby at any point in ur life and get outstandingly good at it & 2) the project u've been working on & aren't pleased w the current outcome so far will not be your last. u will draw/crochet/paint/sculpt/write another piece, and another, and you will have many chances to be fully content w your craft. so you should cherish the joy of making art instead of worrying ab the results & think ab how lovely it is that we're all vessels for artistry and we can share the divine act of creation!!!!!

    unforgiven.

  • i definitely think minecraft won't be the game for everyone in the end and that's just how things are no problem but i do think *some* people who don't get the hype of it just need to play with their friends and build a house with them. its also for doing things like this.
